If it works ok when Vista is running,but freezing during reboots and starts(does not freeze when rebooting or starting with XP) does this suggest there is something missing from the Vista programming that causes the machine to freeze.I thought if it was a compatibilty issue the external hard drive wouldn't open up

THE DRIVERS WERE NOT MORE COMPATIBLE WITH WIN XP. SO I HAD CRASH, REBOOT, BLUE SCREEN, ETC,ETC,ETC.. SO, I CHANGED MY WIN XP TO WIN VISTA. requires to re-plug the power cord to reboot. I do not see anything in the event log, and do not get a blue screen during the crash (although it is set to create a dump).

A uniprocessor kernel boots-up with no problems. of 4 consecutive successful bootups with an SMP kernel (2.6.23.1), after which a freeze occurs. Then I reboot to Vista, and keep trying to boot the SMP kernel.

(google for Vista, Itunes, GearAspi) If this is not the case, make sure you have the correct and most current drivers installed for your drive (check mfg in IE browser searching DVD drive in windows explorer alot of these seems to be related to searches and the drive seems to disappear during searches too...
